Pustejovsky CV

Biography

Dr. Pustejovsky is a statistician and Associate Professor in the Educational Psychology Department and the graduate program in Quantitative Methods. His research involves developing statistical methods for problems in education, psychology, and other areas of social science research, with a focus on methods related to research synthesis and meta-analysis. He completed his Ph. D. in statistics from Northwestern University in 2013, where he was also a fellow in the Multidisciplinary Program in Education Sciences.

Research Interests

As an applied statistician, my research aims to solve problems in how quantitative methods are employed in education and social science research. To do so, I develop new statistical methodology, build computing tools, and provide guidance about how to use statistical methods in delimited problem contexts. My main area of scholarly interest is in meta-analysis, which is the set of statistical techniques for quantifying, summarizing, and synthesizing evidence from different sources (such as primary studies conducted by different researchers in different settings) in order to draw general conclusions about a phenomenon. Within meta-analysis, I have worked on problems of synthesizing effects that have an unknown dependence structure, problems of detecting selective reporting (publication bias), and methods for synthesizing the findings of single-case experimental designs. I often collaborate with scholars conducting large-scale research syntheses.
